Few things compare to the pleasure of the first sighting of spring bulbs blooming after our long Maine winters. Some of the earliest bloomers are in my neighborhood. People stop and admire these little treasures, lingering and pulling out cameras to send a picture to a friend. Spreading the joy.
The farmer's markets bring the same kind of energy and levity when they spring up in the center of town on the grassy park known as "The Mall" in Brunswick. From May to October, the market is abundant with local produce and gorgeous flowers. And many local flower farms begin offering blooms that are unsurpassed in beauty starting in May.
